Half-Birthday

Gideon turned six months old last Tuesday. True to form, he's still hanging out at the top end of the growth chart at 19 pounds, 8 ounces and a whole 28 inches long!!  He giggles a ton, sometimes at not such great moments like when his brother is having a tantrum.  He babbles, coos, grunts, and shrieks. All typically endearing except when it's 6am and he's lying next to me while I'm hoping to sleep a little longer.  He's able to sit unassisted for short periods of time.  His very favorite thing to do is bounce.  He's having fun trying solid foods and his naps have been trending toward being longer than forty minutes! Gideon's smile is still all gums but judging by their puffiness, I imagine I'll be seeing a tooth or two within the next month. This is a little sad since the gummy grin is one of my favorite things about babies.

He loves his brother and he's extremely tolerant of Caleb's frequent displays of affection.  In fact, sometimes it's just what he needs.  Recently, in a moment of utter exasperation at not being able to stop Gideon's crying (he didn't want to sleep, he didn't want to nurse, he wasn't wet or poopy, etc), I sat him up in the corner of the couch next to me and told him I wasn't sure what he wanted or how to help. Caleb came bee-bopping over, climbed  across my lap, snuggled up cheek to cheek with Gideon and Gideon calmed down immediately. I was amazed and maybe slightly jealous of Caleb's baby-whispering ability but mostly thrilled! Oh and my heart may have melted just a smidgen.

This little one is growing up a bit too quickly for my liking but I've been trying hard to enjoy each stage in the moment since it's so clear to me this time around how quickly time passes (Caleb will be 2 at the beginning of next month, can you sense the nostalgia setting in?)...*sigh.
